In 2020, the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a ruling to amend the regulation regarding air travel for service animals. The ruling allows for airlines to now recognize emotional support animals as pets, not service animals.
In accordance with this, airlines can now require passengers to fill out a DOT form that corroborates the animal’s training, good behavior, and good health. Once you fill the form out, you will need to send it to your airline or the Department of Transportation yourself.
