Employees complete the IRS W-4 form so that their employers know how much federal income tax to withhold from each paycheck. Each time you start a new job, or your financial situation changes, you’ll need to fill one of these out.
A W-2 is the summary of your tax withholdings for the entire year; including federal, state, and local taxes as well as Social Security and other withholdings. Your employer is required by law to send you one by the end of January. In January 2020, you’ll receive a W-2 representing your tax information for all of 2019.
